Let's Build Our Community Together.
Are you ready to join Vibrant Schools and help build our
communities?
Vibrant Schools partners with families, educators, and community
organizations to ensure every student can navigate the public school
system with equity, safety, respect, and fairness. We work together to
remove barriers, uplift diverse voices, and create learning environments
where all students feel supported, valued, and empowered to thrive.
Vibrant Schools is built on the belief that every child deserves a learning environment where they feel seen,
valued, and supported. Diversity, inclusion, and equity are not just guiding principles for us, they are the
foundation of every initiative, activity and interaction. We work intentionally to ensure that students from
all backgrounds can navigate the public school system with confidence, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
By fostering a culture rooted in safety, respect, and fairness, we create a community where students are
encouraged to explore their identities, express their perspectives, and grow into compassionate,
empowered learners.
Our commitment extends beyond academics. Vibrant Schools supports culturally responsive teaching,
inclusive extracurricular opportunities, and equitable access to resources so that every student can
participate fully in school life. Whether through multilingual arts programs, mixed‑ability clubs, leadership
opportunities, or community partnerships, we celebrate the richness of our students’ experiences and the
strength that comes from collaboration. At Vibrant Schools, every voice matters, every story contributes to
our shared journey, and every learner is supported in reaching their fullest potential.
In 2020 the group changed its name to Vibrant Schools of Puget Sound (VSOPS) expanded its equity
focused services to include the Tacoma and Clover Park School Districts. The organization was the leading
community-based organization that assisted in the passing of the Equity Policies for both School Districts.
This resulted in impacting over 40,000 students. In Clover Park, the organization was successful utilizing
community mobilization tactics to censor one of
the Clover Park School Board Member who consistently used discriminatory words and displayed
disrespectful, racially oriented behaviors. VSOPS helped to ensure that this board member would not be
re-elected. He was not re-elected!
REFLECTION CONTINUED:
With the development and completion of the Equity Policy for Tacoma Schools, Vibrant Schools of Puget
Sound was invited to join the district’s Equity Policy Team representing the community voice on the
team. This team is now reviewing every policy in the Tacoma Schools with an anti-racist, equity focused
lens. To date, VSOPS has assisted in updating forty (40) policies. This is an ENORMOUS impact for a
student population of 28,000 in the Tacoma Schools. Forty (40) policy updates times 28,000 students
resulting in over a million impact to the student population. Do the math! As the policy review process
continues, more impacts will be coming!
In 2022, Vibrant Schools of Puget Sound (VSOPS) became a 501 (c) 3 non-profit and ended its fiscal
agent relationship with the Peace Community Center. This change resulted in unexpected operational
challenges as now the organization experienced increased administrative responsibilities and tasks
coupled with the maintaining existing equity related initiatives and activities. In addition, the
organization no longer operated out of the VSOPS CEO’s home office space and started renting office
space in a business Co-Op building facility resulting in increased operational expenses.
VSOPS also moved into a new phase of action by establishing itself as a Community Convener. The
organization has been successful in providing community equity focused coalition opportunities via its
PURGE and SURGE events and most recently the Beloved Community Campaign Launch on January 11,
2025. Beloved Community Strategic Workshops began in February 2025 and will continue through May
2025. Additional activities include the Youth Activism Academies in the Clover Park School District.
